Nick has spent much of his life seeking out adventure and challenge: climbing, running and skiing in the mountains. It has involved lots of risk, expense, hard work, and suffering.

In preparing for this talk, Nick wondered whether it was morally defensible to try to inspire others to follow a similar path. Are the photos of sunsets and stories of successes just cliches with which we delude ourselves into thinking that we’re doing something meaningful? (me: whoa…this is going to be interesting)

To answer these questions, Nick will examine his own relationship with the mountains and question what motivates him to pursue activities that at times seem a little absurd.

Don’t worry though, he’s also got sunset photos and tales of striving against adversity to share as well.
